Our IB Programme
From academic year 2021-2022 onward, ALASCA aims to offer the Diploma Programme that allows students to get an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma. This programme is aimed at senior students, aged 16 - 19, who are looking to increase their chances for admittance to, and success at, universities across the globe.
Within the Dutch school system the IB programme is usually only offered at international schools, making it inaccessible (by law) for 'regular' Dutch students. The mandatory fees at those schools often form an additional barrier for those students and their parents. At ALASCA our ambitions are twofold:
(1) to make the programme accessible to all students who meet the admission criteria;
(2) to bridge the divide between international schools and Dutch schools, by bringing those school types and their respective student populations together.
The Diploma Programme
The DP was established to provide students with a balanced education, facilitate geographic and cultural mobility and to promote international understanding. It is an academically challenging and balanced programme of education. It addresses the intellectual, social, emotional and physical well-being of students.
The Diploma Programme is well known and respected by universities worldwide, including The Netherlands. The programme and its diploma have been deemed comparable to the Dutch Vwo-diploma by NUFFIC.
The DP curriculum
The Diploma Programme (DP) curriculum is made up of six subject groups and the DP core, comprising theory of knowledge (TOK), creativity, activity, service (CAS) and the extended essay.
Through the Diploma Programme (DP) core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service.
At ALASCA our (prospective) curriculum from academic year 2021-2022 on will be:
- Maths: A&I
- Visual arts
- Design technology
- English language
- Dutch Landguage & literature
We are looking to expand our curriculum and offer more DP subjects in the coming years.
